Subject: Introducing... Dany's Pipboy! Fri Jul 19, 2013 1:25 am
As most of you may know, Delta, Iris, and I are attending a Con in a month or so. Delta will be going as one of the Tunnel Snake (That's us, and we rule!), and so I've been helping him with his costume a bit. From the start, I knew I was going to be painting a leather jacket with the Tunnel Snake mascot on the back, but I also knew a crucial part of the costume would be a Pipboy. Well, a while back I wanted to make a Pipboy, and I saw these awesome resin casts of the PB clock made from a guy named Skruffy on Therpf.com. The cast itself would cost around $80, but it would be well worth it--all the details were super accurate and precise. Therefore, I contacted him again to see if he was still producing them. To my disdain, he wouldn't be casting them until September, and our Con was in August. I told Delta the bad news, and I said to prepare for the worst(no Pipboy). But as always, Delta was optimistic and said that that'd be okay, and maybe we could try to make our own. The first method I thought of was Pepakura and bondo, but I did not have the patience to do that, so that was quickly shot down. The next was to make the frame out of balsa wood, which is an inexpensive material. I knew that any Pipboy I constructed wouldn't look nearly as good as the resin casts, but I had to at least give it a shot. My motivation was that any pipboy was better than no Pipboy at all. And so I headed out and bought some balsa wood, which only cost me about $7 for a few sheets. I dremeled out shapes and glued them together, to create the basic frame. The top layer would be removable with velcro, for underneath it would lay my old Ipod Touch that would play the Galaxy News Radio Screen, as well as the Stats Screen. Then I scrounged my house for knobs and dials for the Pipboy, and used stiff cardboard to create the body of it. Then I painted it multiple layers (I'm still not very happy with the paint job--it needs to be dirtier!), and added some details. I was on vacation for two weeks in between making this, but the hours I spent constructing it came in under a week. I'm still not done with it, and it's not as accurate as the resin cast (honestly I half-assed the body of this thing), but I think it looks pretty darn good for a $7 Pipboy. a

Aww thanks guys:3 Making me feel so good about my Pipboy, even though I am by no means an engineer xD Sir, I made this by waving a wand and it magically appeared. I don't know how it happened. It just fucking did. Dis I can't take it off now that I've put it on. It's magically grafted to my arm.

[PLEASE READ] The Helpful Box

Hey guys, Delta here.
Due to a recent bump in re-activity, spirits have been rather high. At the same time, however, so have the skeptics of some- Hell, maybe all of us. I'm not gonna lie and say that building this place back up is gonna be easy, but that doesn't mean it's gotta be hard, y'know?
We all had fun, be it posting some badass fight scenes, or dickin' around in the Chatbox or any number of the miscellaneous threads.
And I'd like for it to be that way again, because I missed all of ya.
So, this leads to... The Helpful Box.
In this thread, I'd like for everyone- especially those who are skeptical on the progress we're gonna be making- to input how they feel we can go about …
I don't know if this is a good idea, but I figured we could set a date and time to get online and chat and think of ideas for the forum, together.
So, I hope you all decide to check the forum before the certain date/time I choose.
I think Iris and I have a telepathic connection together. She gets back on the forum, and seven days later I have the urge to check out the forum. That can't be a coincidence. There's some syfy shit going on there.
Just as soon as I thought every piece of my life had been put into place, BAM someone came along and set all the pieces on fire. And then put it out. And set fire on it again.
Just kidding, nothing dramatic has happened in my life at all. Anyways, I apologize profusely for my absence. School has been all-consuming and I feel like a zombie. I feel for Iris' pain; some of my friends who are in cheer are exhausted from all of the stuff they do. I have been so busy I haven't …
Indeed. It is so. Your eyes are not fooling you.
Iris is back.
And is very sorry.
Im so busy with cheer, its insane. I have practice every monday and wednesday, and games Thursdays and we sometimes cheer at varsity games on Fridays.
Plus, my cables been out for at least a month, and with the new ios7 update, my phone
wont log into my itunes account and safari wont work.
Im actually on some random persons phone right now that I found at the pool...
at 1:02 in the morning.
IM VERY SORRY.
Ill try and be active, but i womt be on the chatbox often, so if you need me,
PM me.
Please need me, im lonely. :-(
Anyways,
Toodleoo,
Well,it wasn't my idea, not sure who's it was, but I want to inform everyone that it's SETTLED.
Thanks to Daenerys, she has put together an appropriate logo for both the Warui and Survivors.
The logos are shown on every page, in the right corner, as if it wasn't already obvious.
The Warui's logo is a phoenix, and I was thinking that on the soldiers, it could be in a badge type form, like that of police badges that they hold up in shows or movies, but instead of holding it up, it'd be on a sleeve of the Warui soldiers uniforms and such.
Same for the Survivors, but instead of on uniforms, it'd be on flags and tents and crates and such. The logo is an eye with a nuclear symbol in the center. …
****UPDATE On the Currency Issue****
There was a bit of debate on what "currency" our forum shall have... Some argued for a set currency, while other argued for trading. Therefore, we have reached a compromise: a mixture of both. A member said---"Come to think of it, I don't know why any of us think the world will run off of one methods of buying/selling/obtaining." Which is completely true. The whole world is in ruins, and shit is falling apart. Therefore, bottlecaps are the "unofficial currency", while many people use trading because it is more convenient for them.
